Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario (PSSO) invites the community to its annual Parkinson’s Awareness Day Flag Raising Ceremony on April 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in front of Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc. This event marks Parkinson’s Awareness Day and demonstrates support for everyone living with Parkinson’s disease. PSSO is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing programs and essential services to individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s throughout southwestern Ontario.
The ceremony will bring together Mayor Colin Grantham and members of the local community, including PSSO support group participants and those who have a loved one or know someone living with Parkinson’s. The mayor and a PSSO staff member will each share a few words before attendees witness the flag being raised—a symbol of hope, resilience, and solidarity.
Each year, PSSO raises a special Parkinson’s awareness flag at locations across the region to remind those impacted by the disease, and their caregivers, that they are not alone. The flag serves to foster connection and encourage a deeper understanding—not only of the physical challenges Parkinson’s presents, but also its emotional and mental effects.
The ceremony is part of PSSO’s broader April Awareness Campaign, which highlights personal stories from members of the Parkinson’s community. These accounts show how individuals face the disease with courage and perseverance. Each journey is unique, yet a shared thread runs through them all: despite challenges, hope and the ability to live fully remain central. By sharing their experiences, people show others that they are supported and understood, sending a powerful message of Real Stories, Real Strengths.
PSSO is committed to offering guidance, resources, and support to anyone affected by Parkinson’s. A variety of programs and services are available to help individuals and families throughout their Parkinson’s journey.
