Fuel Up: Gas prices in Tillsonburg

March 5 is Reel Film Day, a celebration dedicated to the look, feel, and history of 35mm film — the format that shaped more than a century of cinema. Across the U.S., independent theatres mark the day with special screenings, classic‑film showcases, premieres, and events that remind movie lovers just how revolutionary film once was, and how important it remains.

The story of 35mm begins with Thomas Edison, whose early cameras and projectors were built around that width of film. To make those cameras useful, George Eastman of Kodak developed the film stock that would become the industry standard. For decades, Kodak supplied the reels that captured everything from silent films to Hollywood’s golden age to modern classics.

Reel Film Day itself began in 2017, when Kodak partnered with Alamo Drafthouse, one of the few theatre chains still equipped to run film prints. Independent cinemas across the country joined in, screening classics on real film and donating part of the proceeds to The Film Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving historic movies.

It’s a day for cinephiles, casual movie fans, and anyone who loves the flicker of a projector, the hum of a reel, and the unmistakable glow of film on a big screen.
