March 10 is National Napping Day, a celebration of rest, recovery, and the glorious midday snooze — arriving at exactly the right moment after we all lose an hour to the “spring forward.” Created in 1999 by Boston University professor William Anthony and his wife Camille, the day was designed to raise awareness about the importance of sleep and to help people make up for the rest they lose during the time change.
The Anthonys chose the Monday after daylight saving time for a reason: studies show it’s when people feel the most tired, the most sluggish, and the most sleep‑deprived. National Napping Day gives everyone permission to slow down, recharge, and shake off that jet‑lagged feeling the time change always brings.
Even though National Napping Day isn’t an official federal holiday, it’s one many people are more than happy to observe. After all, who doesn’t love a socially acceptable excuse to curl up and recharge?
