Here's what's going on over the next 48 hours in the region
STUFF TO DO
Today: From 10:15 - 11:15 am, it's time for Yoga at the Tillsonburg Community Centre. This class uses a variety of yoga poses, stretching principles and movements combined with breathing and relaxation techniques to reduce muscle tension and stress. For ages 13+
Today: At the Tillsonburg Library, the kids can trade bedtime routines for an after-hours movie night. Family Movie Friday features The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, along with colouring, snacks and drinks. The whole family is welcome, but registration is required — so you'll need to sign up ahead of time, either online or by calling the library at 519-842-5571. It runs from 6 to 8 Friday night.
Today: The historic Sherbrooke Barn at the Ingersoll Cheese Museum turns into a dance floor on Friday night. It’s the second Barn Dance of the year, with a DJ playing all evening, line-dancing lessons for beginners, food available from PB’s French Fries, and a bar hosted by the Ingersoll Lions Club. It runs from 7 to 10 Friday night — and there’s no set admission price. You get in by donation.
Tomorrow: Saturday morning at Pittock Conservation Area, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is giving kids a chance to think like forest animals. The Oxford Reads – Amazing Adaptations program lets school-aged kids and their families explore how animals survive in the forest, with hands-on activities, puzzles, and a look at some of the strange and clever ways animals adapt to their surroundings. It runs from 10:30 until noon Saturday at the Pittock Day-Use Area in Woodstock, and it's rain or shine. Register here.
Tomorrow: If the kids have already spent the week getting back into the school routine, Saturday at Noon is a pretty good time to let them stay in their pajamas. The Tavistock Library is showing Hoppers, a family-friendly movie about an animal lover who uses some pretty wild technology to put her consciousness into a robotic beaver - and discovers a whole new world of animal mysteries. The library is providing free snacks, and kids are encouraged to come in their PJs, and bring blankets and pillows. No registration - just show up, and settle in.
Tomorrow: There’s an Adult Lane and Leisure Swim Saturday from 11:30 to 1 at the Tillsonburg Community Centre pool, for ages 13 and up. The pool is divided between swimming lanes and an open leisure area. If you want to try something a little different, aqua bikes are available in the shallow end. So, you can swim some laps, take it a little easier, or pedal your way through the weekend, and no school bell telling you when to stop.
