Volunteer Appreciation Day: Bryan Smith

A now retired high school language teacher, Smith has been giving back to the community for decades.

If there was ever a poster-person for volunteer in Oxford County, Sweaburg resident Bryan Smith would certainly be considered a worthy candidate.

A now retired high school language teacher, Smith has been giving back to the community for decades. In 2019 - Smith received the County's first ever Social Justice Award.

His causes range from social justice, to hunger and homelessness, to bringing new learning opportunities to students.  His work has touched many parts of the county including through a program called Lunch Bunch which provides a meal for children and adults.  Smith's helping with food theme also extends to volunteering with Ingersoll's STICH Supper Club which today by-the-way(Tuesday February 12th) is featuring its Shrove Tuesday offering of oven baked potato, sausage, bacon, apple compote, fruit salad, pizza, soup and a dessert table - from  4:15 pm – 6:00 pm at Trinity United Church.

Smith says there is always, sadly, something in terms of social injustice that needs working on, which is why he chooses to wear so many hats in the local volunteer community.

Smith is also very accessible.  He makes himself available at the weekly Woodstock Farmers Market on Nellis Street where the Oxford Coalition for Social Justice has a table. You can talk with Bryan and his associates about community matters including health care, clean water - whatever you want.

Smith talked with My Broadcasting Corporation's John Brenner for today's Volunteer Appreciation Day.
