United Way Oxford says this year’s Coldest Night of the Year events in Tillsonburg and Ingersoll were a strong success, raising more than $104,000 to support transitional housing programs in both communities.

The February 28 walks welcomed over 275 participants, with every dollar raised staying in the community where it was collected. Funds will support the Tillsonburg and Ingersoll Light Houses, which provide safe, supportive housing for people working to rebuild stability in their lives.

Kelly Gilson, Executive Director of United Way Oxford, says transitional housing offers residents the time, space and support needed to move forward.

“Transitional housing provides safe, supportive, and affordable housing that supports each resident’s unique needs and allows them the assistance required to create a better future,” Gilson said.

Since opening in 2023, the Tillsonburg Light House has helped 31 people through its program. The Ingersoll Light House, which opened in April 2025, has already supported 14 individuals.

Community Impact and Engagement Manager Lindsay Wilson says investing in a housing-first approach helps residents regain stability while staying connected to their community.
