Our Food Drive is in support of Tillsonburg's Helping Hand Food Bank
Back-to-school time can be tough ...especially when food insecurity is part of the equation. This Thursday, a first-of-its-kind event in Tillsonburg will take centre stage, and have that back-to-school focus in mind.
It's the inaugural New Country 107.3 / 101.3 Giant FM / Tim Horton's ALL-HANDS-ON-DECK Food Drive. The major food drive will cover three locations Thursday. Our radio stations will be represented at Zehrs, Sobeys or NoFrills in Tillsonburg, collecting your donations - both non-perishables and monetary - and all in support of the Tillsonburg Helping Hand Food Bank.
Samantha Hamilton, Coordinator of the Helping Hand Food Bank, is pleased:
When the Helping Hand Food Bank started in 1991, cans, boxes and non-perishables were the staples of their operations. Today, the reality is much different. Now, 68% of all food they distribute is fresh or frozen. Monetary and food donations help them to nourish local families by providing groceries through their food service program. They also donate surplus provisions to other organizations and churches that provide hot meals for those in need.
Samantha Hamilton says they're in pretty good shape, but can always use more help:
Every can, every box, every dollar makes a difference with help from our community minded partners, but Hamilton suggested where the focus should be this Thursday:
You can be a part of it this Thursday, August 20th, from 10-6pm, by helping us help everyone.
