What's Good in Tillsonburg? Local primary care gets big boost with provincial funding

Ontario is investing $5.2 million to expand primary care in Oxford County, including a new nurse practitioner–led clinic in Tillsonburg aimed at connecting upwards of 13,000 residents without a family doctor. The initiative, led by the Thames Valley Family Health Team, is part of a broader provincial plan to improve access to primary care across Ontario through 2029.

The Ontario government is investing $5.2 million to expand primary care services in Oxford County, with a new nurse practitioner–led clinic planned for Tillsonburg as part of efforts to connect more residents to family doctors and primary care teams.

The funding, delivered under the province’s Primary Care Action Plan, is expected to connect up to 13,020 people in the region to primary care providers. It will be administered by the Thames Valley Family Health Team, which is overseeing service expansion across Oxford County.

Tillsonburg Mayor Deb Gilvesy says the investment is very encouraging.

The plan includes expanding services at the Ingersoll Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic and establishing the new Tillsonburg clinic to increase local access to team-based care for residents without a family doctor.

A patient intake process will be announced once the new clinic is operational. Local health partners, including the Oxford Ontario Health Team, will coordinate implementation and communication.

Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman says the process started about seven years ago.

Hardeman adds that nothing is more important to the region than health care.

When it is up and running, the clinic will be located in the Northgate Plaza at 671 Broadway Street in Tillsonburg.

The province says the broader initiative is part of a $3.4 billion plan running to 2029 aimed at ensuring all Ontarians are connected to primary care.
