Communities across Canada are competing for the title of Canada's Most Active Community and a $100,000 prize to support local recreation and sport programs.
Oxford County residents are being encouraged to get active this June as the national ParticipACTION Community Challenge returns, promoting physical activity and community wellness across Canada.
The initiative invites communities nationwide to compete for the title of Canada’s Most Active Community, along with a $100,000 prize to support local sport and recreation programs.
Health officials are encouraging residents, workplaces, schools, and community groups to take part.
That was Michele Kershaw, a Registered Kinesiologist.
Kershaw says when they saw the initiative returning, it only made sense to try and get more people involved.
Kershaw hopes this message reaches all corners of Oxford County and encourages smaller groups to join in as well.
As she notes, the challenge isn’t just for large clubs.
The ParticipACTION Community Challenge is a national initiative funded by the Government of Canada and Novo Nordisk. It recognizes not only a national winner but also provincial, territorial, and organizational prize recipients.
Residents can learn more or register through ParticipACTION.
In 2025, Richmond, British Columbia accomplished the feat.
