Excitement is building as the countdown begins for the 2026 Special Olympics Ontario School Championships. The event will take place May 26–28, 2026, in London and will welcome more than 1,000 student-athletes, along with their coaches and families, from across Ontario and Canada.

Announced at Lord Dorchester Secondary School, the Championships will feature basketball, bocce, floorball, track and field, and soccer. Each sport will include multiple ability levels, ensuring fair and inclusive competition for all participants.

The launch also introduced the “Draft a School” campaign, which invites individuals, schools, and businesses to sponsor athletes. Funds raised will cover expenses so every qualifying athlete can compete free of charge.

London Police Chief Thai Truong, serving as Honorary Chair, said the city will rally behind the athletes: “Our goal is to see every school drafted. The London Police Service is honoured to welcome these amazing athletes.”

Special Olympics Ontario CEO Cody Jansma highlighted the strong tradition of support from police services, while Bill Tucker, Director of Education at the Thames Valley District School Board, praised the event as an opportunity for students to grow, connect, and build friendships.

Competitions will be hosted at Western University and venues across London. Community partners, schools, and volunteers are expected to play a major role in ensuring the Championships celebrate inclusion, youth leadership, and school spirit.
