The annual campaign begins Saturday, October 24, with staffed poppy tables at four local stores and donations supporting veterans and community initiatives.
Tillsonburg and area residents will have another opportunity to support local veterans when the Royal Canadian Legion’s annual Poppy Campaign gets underway on October 24.
The campaign, organized by Tillsonburg Legion Branch 153, runs through November 10. Donations help fund services and initiatives for veterans, including support for those receiving care at Parkwood Institute, bursaries for students at Glendale High School, and a regular coffee hour for veterans at the Legion.
Don Burton, Poppy Campaign chairman for Branch 153, says the money raised supports a range of needs in the community and beyond.
Burton says the local community’s support has made a significant difference. Last year’s campaign raised approximately $27,000, and the Legion is once again inviting residents and businesses to contribute.
Poppy tables will be staffed daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sobeys, Metro, Tillsonburg Town Centre and Zehrs.
Donation boxes will also be available at stores and other locations throughout the community.
Businesses interested in hosting a poppy donation box can contact the Tillsonburg Legion at 519-842-5281.
The Poppy Campaign is an annual opportunity to remember and honour the sacrifices of veterans and those who continue to serve, while helping support veterans and local initiatives throughout the year.
