What's Good in Tillsonburg? Ranger the Wellness Dog brings comfort, calm, and smiles to OPP Officers

Ranger is the first Wellness Service Dog with the OPP.

Headline:

A new and unique program at the Ontario Provincial Police is quietly making a meaningful difference for officers across Oxford County.

Ranger is the first Wellness Service Dog with the Ontario Provincial Police, introduced about five months ago as part of a pilot program focused on mental wellness. His job is not enforcement, but connection.

That was Ranger's handler, Detective Constable Jody Fedak.

Ranger was trained by the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides and is dedicated entirely to supporting OPP members. He visits detachments, communication centres, and critical incident debriefs across West Region.

Known for his calm, laid-back personality, Ranger has a natural way of easing stress and bringing people together.

Ranger travels throughout West Region, including Essex, Oxford, Norfolk and surrounding areas. While the program is still a pilot, the response has been heartfelt and encouraging.

Ranger will soon receive his own OPP badge and Fedak added, “It’s incredible the comfort one dog can bring.”
