Still counting proceeds from July 18 run supporting local families facing cancer
Runners of all ages and abilities, and from as far away as Croatia, laced up for the annual Tillsonburg Running with the Bulls, on Saturday, July 18th. It was the third year for the community event, with certified 10-kilometre and 5-kilometre races, a 1-kilometre Kiddie Bull Charge, as well as a free Memorial Walk.
Organizer Tamara Bull had a few anxious moments due to the area conditions from both the weather and the northern Ontario wildfire smoke:
Of course, as the week progressed, the smoke conditions lingered much longer than expected, threatening to postpone or possibly cancel the event. But, Tamara stayed focused on the details. She continued to prepare, as both the expectations for smoke and the weather kept changing.
Bull was pleased with the window that the smoke and weather provided for the event:
Inspired by her son's diagnosis of a rare form of cancer in 2023, Tamara raises money in order to donate the proceeds to assist children, adolescents and young adults in their battles against cancer through the Kindred Foundation, ensuring that the funds raised locally will first benefit families in the local community.
This year, the number of participants in the race grew from 375 last year to 450, and Bull is also inspired by this year's fundraising totals:
While still counting, and doing post-event analysis on last weekend's run, Tamara Bull is already looking forward to Running With the Bulls for 2027.
