On Wednesday, July 15th, Tim Hortons Foundation Camps will once again help youth from underserved communities access life-changing camp experiences
Tim Hortons Camp Day is a favourite annual event for many people in the community, and this year it's happening on Wednesday, July 15th throughout our Oxford communities, and across the country. There are always special events planned around the day itself, with many people in the community involved to help make the day a success.
Michael Gazley and his wife Christine have three Tillsonburg Tim Hortons locations - located on Simcoe Street, Oxford Street, and at Tillsonburg Town Centre. Michael says the key element to the success of the event is the relationship between the location owners across the country, and the Tim Hortons Foundation Camps, in achieving the day's goal:
Tim Hortons Camp Day was actually kick-started in 1987, by fifty-eight owners in Atlantic Canada who donated 24 hours of sales to the Tim Hortons Children's Camp in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. That initiative then expanded to all Tim Hortons restaurants across Canada in 1991. Tim Hortons restaurant owners and guests collectively have raised over $262 million since 1991!
"Tim Hortons Foundation Camps" is the official name of the foundation, and, because of the success of the Camp Day program, Michael says they have expanded to include programs for youth from underserved communities beyond the camp experience:
Michael and Christine Gazley's Tillsonburg locations will not only be raising money - as Michael has at least one special and fun challenge planned with his staff, and the end result sounds like something worth witnessing:
The annual fundraising event provides 100% of proceeds from both hot and iced coffee sales to the Tim Hortons Foundation Camps, helping youth from underserved communities, but - even if you don't drink coffee - you can also support the cause through the purchase of Camp Day donuts, bracelets, or badges at participating Tim Hortons locations.
