Animal contact at transformer station causes Tillsonburg power disruptions

Brief outages affected customers across the community over the past two mornings

Tillsonburg Hydro says animal contact is behind brief power outages experienced across the community over the past two mornings.

According to the utility, the animal contact caused a disruption at the Tillsonburg Transformer Station. Because the station supplies Tillsonburg Hydro’s entire service area, customers across the system temporarily lost power.

The outages were described as brief and momentary, and if you are wondering if the outages on Monday and Tuesday mornings were connected other than by animals, the answer is no.

Tilllsonburg Hydro tells Oxfordtoday that Monday's outage was at around 5:13am, and Tuesdays around 5:50am. Hydro also says as of Tuesday night, more enforced animal traps will be installed to prevent against future occurances.

Tillsonburg Hydro crews have investigated the issue and are continuing to monitor the transformer station as they work to maintain reliable service.

The utility thanked customers for their patience and understanding following the disruptions.
