Arson charge laid after person set on fire in Woodstock home

A 44-year-old Woodstock man has been charged after police say he allegedly doused another person with a flammable substance and set them on fire during an argument at a Finkle Street home on April 20th, causing serious injuries. He remains in custody facing charges including aggravated assault and arson causing bodily harm.

A 44-year-old Woodstock man is facing multiple serious charges after an individual was set on fire during an altercation at a local residence earlier this month.

Emergency crews, including the Woodstock Fire Department and Oxford County Paramedic Services, were called to a home on Finkle Street on April 20th, following reports of a person suffering from burn injuries. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment.

According to Woodstock Police, an investigation revealed that several individuals who were known to each other had been gathered at the residence when an argument broke out. During the dispute, one person allegedly threw a flammable substance onto another individual and ignited it, causing serious injuries.

Police say they arrested a 44-year-old man on April 25th in connection with the incident. He has been charged with aggravated assault, arson causing bodily harm, and four counts of possession of fire, ammunition or an explosive substance contrary to a prohibition order.

The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police have not released the names of those involved.
