A 34-year-old Aylmer man failed to stop for a school bus with its overhead lights on and stop arm out and was eventually arrested after some tests conducted by officers. The incident happened just after 5 p.m. on May 26th, according to Aylmer police.
A routine patrol in Aylmer turned into an impaired driving arrest earlier this week after a driver allegedly failed to stop for a school bus with its stop arm extended.
According to Aylmer Police, the incident happened shortly after 5 p.m. on May 26th. An officer was travelling on John Street when they spotted a southbound vehicle pass a northbound school bus that had its overhead lights activated and stop arm out.
Police say the driver continued past the bus before eventually pulling over after the officer initiated a traffic stop.
During the investigation, the officer reportedly detected the smell of alcohol on the driver’s breath. The driver was then arrested and taken to Aylmer Police Service headquarters for further testing.
Police say additional breath tests confirmed the driver was operating a vehicle over the legal alcohol limit.
As a result, a 34-year-old Aylmer man has been charged with operation while impaired, failing to stop for a school bus, and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
The accused was later released from custody and is expected to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in July.
