Canada Post calls for dog owner awareness

Residents are encouraged to keep dogs secured inside, in a fenced yard, or tied away from doors and mailboxes during deliveries.

Canada Post is reminding dog owners to take extra precautions during Dog Bite Prevention Week.

Every day, postal workers deliver to more than 37,000 homes in the region, many of which have dogs. Delivery agents often encounter pets while dropping off mail and parcels, making safety a top priority.

With spring arriving, more dogs are spending time outdoors. While many are friendly, Canada Post says even well-behaved pets can act unpredictably when protecting their home.

Residents are encouraged to keep dogs secured inside, in a fenced yard, or tied away from doors and mailboxes during deliveries. They should also be cautious when opening doors, keep gates closed, and ensure dogs cannot reach carriers through screen doors.

Canada Post says small steps can help prevent incidents and keep everyone safe.
