The federal government is moving forward with a major investment aimed at strengthening local infrastructure and supporting economic growth in communities across Canada.
Through the newly launched Build Communities Strong Fund, the Government of Canada is providing funding to help improve the public spaces, facilities and infrastructure that residents depend on every day. The initiative is designed to foster stronger regional economies while enhancing the quality of life in communities from coast to coast.
A total of $1 billion will be distributed over four years through the fund’s Local Impact Stream, which is being delivered by Canada’s regional development agencies. The program supports projects that improve community infrastructure and contribute to long-term economic development.
Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario Minister Evan Solomon announced that applications are now being accepted in southern Ontario. Through FedDev Ontario, $330 million will be invested over the next four years to support a wide range of local projects, including upgrades to community centres, recreational facilities, parks, trails and cultural spaces.
Municipalities, Indigenous organizations, public-sector bodies and eligible not-for-profit groups throughout southern Ontario are invited to apply. Projects must demonstrate economic, social or environmental benefits that will strengthen local communities and support growth across the broader region.
