Norfolk County Council will receive a report on Wednesday regarding proposed provincial changes governing power-assisted bicycles, commonly known as e-bikes.
The Ontario government released an updated regulatory framework for public consultation in April through the Environmental Registry of Ontario. The proposed rules would establish e-bikes as their own separate class, rather than grouping them under the current vehicle category. The change is intended to provide greater opportunities for recreational use and sustainable transportation. County staff are endorsing the proposal, saying the new framework would improve safety, create greater consistency and make enforcement easier across the province.
