Crash in Norwich Sends One to Hospital, Triggers Diesel Spill and Charges

OPP say the pick-up driver has been charged with disobeying a stop sign.

A two-vehicle crash in Norwich Township sent one person to hospital and caused a diesel leak Wednesday morning.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the scene at Highway 53 and Subway Line around 9:15 a.m. on April 22, 2026.

Police say a transport truck carrying diesel collided with a pick-up truck at the intersection.

The driver of the pick-up, a 25-year-old from Ruthven, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The transport truck driver was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

OPP say the pick-up driver has been charged with disobeying a stop sign.

The crash led to a diesel spill, prompting a temporary road closure while crews worked to investigate and clean up the scene.

Highway 53 between Highway 2 and Towerline Road was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
