Skywatchers can catch a deep lunar eclipse beginning at 10:33 p.m
Canadians will have an opportunity to watch a deep partial lunar eclipse late Thursday night and into the early hours of Friday morning.
We spoke with Backyard Astronomer Gary Boyle, who told us that although it won’t be a total eclipse, it will still be a sight to see for the whole family.

Since it’s summertime, extending bedtime a little later to view it may be possible for many families.
The visible portion of the eclipse will begin at approximately 10:33 p.m. and continue until 1:52 a.m.

The deepest point will occur at approximately 12:13 a.m., when almost the entire Moon will appear darkened.
Unlike a solar eclipse, no special protective eyewear is needed to watch a lunar eclipse. The event also unfolds over several hours, giving viewers plenty of time to step outside and watch the Moon change — assuming Mother Nature cooperates.

For those hoping to see Thursday night’s eclipse, the best approach is simply to find a location with a clear view of the sky and look toward the Moon around the peak shortly after midnight.
