There was a heavy police present on May 28th, around 5 p.m. at a home near Chippewa Avenue and Cree Avenue in Woodstock due to a reported shooting. Officers arrived at the scene and determined it was a swatting incident. The investigation into the origin of the phone call continues.
Woodstock Police say a reported shooting Thursday evening turned out to be a swatting incident.
Officers were called to a home near Chippewa Avenue and Cree Avenue shortly after 5 p.m. on May 28th after receiving a report of a shooting. The call led to a heavy police presence in the neighbourhood while officers cleared the residence and investigated.
Police later determined the shooting never happened and confirmed the call was false.
Swatting involves making fake emergency reports to trigger a major police response, often at someone’s home or business. Police say the incidents put both officers and the public at risk while tying up emergency resources.
The investigation into the source of the false report is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Woodstock Police or Crime Stoppers.
