Family and Children’s Services updates County Council

Oxford County Council received an update on Family and Children’s Services, highlighting progress in expanding access, affordability and inclusion for families across the county.

Since the start of the year, Oxford EarlyON has supported more than 1,100 parents and caregivers and over 1,600 children through nearly 16,000 visits. In March, the County also launched a new special needs resourcing service to help make licensed child care settings more inclusive for children requiring additional supports.

The report also notes that specialized Ontario Works caseworkers are now helping families with children under the age of six connect with services and financial assistance. Oxford County continues to press the provincial government for more child care spaces and funding. The County says its current child care access rate sits at just 20 per cent—well below the provincial target of 37 per cent.
