Town of Tillsonburg staff respond to concerns over shortened Canada Day fireworks
Canada Day celebrations Wednesday at Memorial Park became a heated topic for Tillsonburg residents.
In a media release by the Town of Tillsonburg, details were shared about the causes for concern.
Staff reported the Bandshell had been rented to a third-party individual who had retained a DJ, where less-than-appropriate language - not reflective of the Town's values - was used.
Also, during the fireworks display, the computer system responsible for the ignitions and timing failed, and, despite efforts by the operator, it ended much earlier than planned.
The contractor has accepted responsibility for the incident, and has agreed to a "makeup" fireworks display, held for Labour Day on Sunday, September 6th, with additional details shared closer to the event.
The Town has promised to ensure the provided entertainment at all-age events will be appropriate and family-friendly for public events on Town property, and is looking forward to the same for Labour Day.
