Construction has begun on a new 45-unit apartment building at 175 Springbank Avenue North in Woodstock, including 23 affordable housing units for seniors, single women, and women with children. The project, a partnership between Oxford County and the Afro-Caribbean Business Network, is expected to welcome residents by spring or summer 2028.
Construction is officially underway on a new affordable housing development in Woodstock following a groundbreaking ceremony held Thursday at 175 Springbank Avenue North.
Representatives from Oxford County, the Afro-Caribbean Business Network (ACBN), and project partners gathered to mark the start of construction on the 45-unit residential apartment building. The development will include 23 affordable housing units aimed at supporting seniors, single women, and women with children.
The project is the latest effort to address growing housing needs across Oxford County and expand access to safe and affordable housing options for vulnerable residents.
Oxford County Warden Marcus Ryan joined City of Woodstock and Oxford County Councillor Jerry Acchione and ACBN Executive Director Ryan Knight in celebrating the milestone. Speakers highlighted the importance of collaboration between community organizations and local government in tackling housing challenges and creating more housing opportunities.
“This project reflects the power of partnership and a shared commitment to ensuring more people in our community have access to affordable housing,” said Ryan. “By working together with the Afro-Caribbean Business Network, we are helping create housing opportunities for residents who need them most.”
The apartment building is expected to provide much-needed housing in the community while supporting residents facing barriers to securing affordable accommodation.
Occupancy is anticipated to begin in the spring or summer of 2028.
