Hagersville student earns $1,000 Crime Stoppers bursary for community leadership

Crime Stoppers says the award supports graduating students who show strong dedication to the program across its nine participating high schools.

A Hagersville student is being recognized for her efforts to promote safety and community involvement.

Crime Stoppers of Haldimand and Norfolk has announced that Samantha Nemeth of Hagersville Secondary School is the 2025–2026 recipient of the William Robert Courtnage Community Service Bursary.

Nemeth will receive a $1,000 bursary in recognition of her leadership and contributions to strengthening the Student Crime Stoppers program at her school.

Lillian Wilson, Secretary of Crime Stoppers of Haldimand and Norfolk, says the award highlights the impact students can have in their communities.

She says engaging youth in the program encourages involvement, helps them make informed choices, and supports crime prevention efforts.

The Student Crime Stoppers program allows students to share information about crime anonymously through a tip line or online. Participants also help raise awareness about safety and accountability among their peers.

The bursary was first established during the 1999–2000 school year in memory of William Robert Courtnage, a longtime community leader and Crime Stoppers board member.

Crime Stoppers says the award supports graduating students who show strong dedication to the program across its nine participating high schools.
