United Way Oxford Executive Director Kelly Gilson is retiring after 23 years leading the organization and more than 40 years in the charitable sector. The organization says her leadership helped grow its fundraising efforts and expand its impact across Oxford County.
After more than two decades leading United Way Oxford — and over 40 years in the charitable sector — Executive Director Kelly Gilson is preparing to retire, closing an extraordinary chapter of community leadership in Oxford County.
Gilson has served as Executive Director of United Way Oxford since 2003, helping guide the organization through a period of remarkable growth and transformation. During her tenure, United Way Oxford evolved from a traditional federated fundraising organization into a community impact organization focused on identifying local needs and responding in meaningful, innovative ways.
Under her leadership, the organization more than doubled its annual campaign, strengthened relationships throughout the community, expanded its impact, and developed programs designed to address service gaps and emerging challenges facing local residents.
Those who have worked alongside Kelly say her passion for people and deep commitment to the community have always been at the heart of her work.
“My years at United Way Oxford have truly been a labour of love,” Gilson shared. “The work has been energizing and the impact so rewarding. I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with some of the best humans ever — staff, volunteers, donors and community partners — all committed to helping others and building a better Oxford County for everyone.”
She added that she feels grateful for the opportunity to serve the community and to be part of what she described as “a village that cares deeply for those who need a helping hand.”
The Board of Directors expressed appreciation for her leadership, vision, and years of dedicated service, noting the strong foundation she leaves behind for the organization’s future.
In a statement, the Board highlighted the significant growth and resilience United Way Oxford has achieved during Kelly’s time as Executive Director and praised her thoughtful approach to succession planning. Kelly provided the organization with substantial advance notice of her retirement to help ensure a smooth transition for staff, partners, and the community.
The Board says additional details about transition plans will be shared in the coming weeks.
For now, the focus is on celebrating Gilson's contributions and thanking her for decades of service that have helped shape a stronger, more connected Oxford County.
