Mosquito traps test positive for West Nile

Southwestern Public Health has confirmed two mosquito traps have tested positive for West Nile virus during routine surveillance.

One positive trap was found in Woodstock, while the other was located in Tavistock. Mosquito traps are placed across Oxford County, Elgin County, and the City of St. Thomas to monitor for the virus. Public health is urging residents to remove standing water to reduce mosquito breeding. Officials also recommend using DEET-based insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved light-coloured clothing, changing bird bath water every other day, keeping pool pumps circulating, and screening rain barrels.
