A new peer support group for people living with new or existing ostomies is launching in Oxford County.
Ostomy Support Oxford, supported by the Ostomy Canada Society and hosted through Woodingford Lodge’s Family Transition Program, will meet on the last Tuesday of every month from 6 to 8 p.m. in the board room at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock.
The free support group will provide a space for participants to share experiences, ask questions and learn from healthcare professionals. Sessions will be led by registered nurse Bethanie Fulton, a Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Care (NSWOC).
Meetings will include presentations on topics such as daily life with an ostomy, health and wellness, travel, skin care, sexuality and tax credits.
According to the Ostomy Canada Society, about 13,000 Canadians undergo ostomy surgery each year and more than 165,000 Canadians are living with an ostomy.
The next meeting will be held on June 30th.
