The Ontario government has appointed an expert advisory body to conduct a comprehensive review of student achievement and assessment across the province, with a focus on improving outcomes in reading, writing, and math.
The new advisory body will examine provincial testing, including Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), and review how Ontario supports student learning.
The government says the goal is to identify root causes behind current achievement results and recommend clear, actionable strategies to better support teachers, parents, and students.
Leading the advisory body is Chair William Robson, President and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, and Advisor David R. Johnson, emeritus professor of economics at Wilfrid Laurier University.
The panel will focus on reading, writing, and math achievement, as well as closing performance gaps, before submitting its final report to the Minister.
The report will be made publicly available once complete.
According to the province, the recommendations will help ensure teachers have the tools they need and students have every opportunity to succeed.
The government also notes it is investing $30.3 billion in Core Education Funding for 2025–26, and highlights recent legislation, including the Supporting Children and Students Act, 2025, which expanded ministerial oversight powers.
