Tillsonburg drivers will need to take a detour starting today as Oxford County begins a major sewer replacement project.
Construction on the Old Vienna Road Trunk Inlet Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project gets underway today and is expected to continue through mid-December.
Old Vienna Road is closed between Van Street and Vienna Road for the duration of the work. The sidewalk in the construction area is also closed, with detour routes in place using Van Street, Old Vienna Road, Simcoe Street and Vienna Road.
The project will replace the existing trunk inlet sanitary sewer with a new sewer, manholes and connections to the existing system and the Tillsonburg Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Oxford County says the work will improve wastewater flow, reduce operational risks and create a more reliable system.
Contractors will also use the trail connecting the Coronation Park parking lot to the Carroll Trail to access the treatment plant. The trail will remain open to pedestrians, but users should watch for construction vehicles and follow posted signs.
The project also includes surface restoration, erosion protection and grading, with completion expected by mid-December, weather permitting.
