The Ontario government is investing $7 million through the Indian Residential School Community Engagement Fund to support Indigenous-led healing, commemoration and education initiatives that honour missing children, Survivors, their families and communities affected by the Residential School System.
The fund provides grants of up to $250,000 to eligible Indigenous communities and organizations to support community engagement, public education and research projects focused on addressing the lasting impacts of the Residential School System.
Funding can be used for a variety of initiatives, including ceremonies, monuments, healing gardens, interpretive displays and commemorative plaques that encourage reflection, remembrance and storytelling. The program also supports community engagement, mental health and addictions services, staffing and research activities.
The province says the funding is intended to help Indigenous communities continue their work to commemorate Residential Schools and document their history while advancing reconciliation through community-led priorities.
Applications for the Indian Residential School Community Engagement Fund are open until September 16, 2026.
