OPP talk Victoria Weekend

As the first long weekend of the Spring and Summer approaches and many are gearing up for trips to cottages and summer destinations, the OPP are reminding everyone to prioritize safety on the roads.

With the excitement of the season, increased traffic, and a mix of local and tourist drivers, law enforcement is ramping up efforts to ensure safe travel for all. We talked this week with OPP (Oxford) Constable Randi Crawford.

One of the primary focuses for the OPP is combating impaired driving. With more people enjoying festivities that may involve alcohol or drugs, officers will be vigilant in enforcing laws against impaired driving. Crawford says they won't just be patrolling the roads but also on the water.

For those boaters that think the Police cannot board a vessel out of the blue, they are wrong. Plus the rules of the raod do apply to the water in terms of alcohol on board.

For motorists on their way to open up their getaway dwellings, Crawford recommends to have a serious look around when you arrive therefor the first time since the Fall.

But what if there is a stranger on the premises.

Motorists are reminded to share the road responsibly, giving cyclists adequate space and being patient when overtaking. Each county’s OPP division has developed specific traffic plans for the long weekend. These plans include strategies for ride checks, speeding enforcement, and other measures to ensure road safety.
