Oxford County goes purple to show children and families they’re not alone

Oxford County residents are being encouraged to wear purple on Thursday, October 29 to show children, youth and families that support is always close to home.

Dress Purple Day is a province-wide campaign highlighting the role everyone can play in creating safe and supportive communities.

Giselle Lutfallah, Director of Service, said the day carries a simple but important message.

Executive Director Tina Diamond said raising awareness is also about strengthening the partnerships that families can turn to.

Lutfallah adds, building strong relationships between families, schools, community organizations, health care providers and neighbours can help connect people with support earlier.

This year marks the third time Oxford County has formally proclaimed October 29 as Dress Purple Day.

Lutfallah said another focus is making sure young people know they can speak up when something does not feel right.

Diamond encourages residents, businesses and organizations to join in on Thursday and share their support with the community.

The goal is to make sure local children and families know they belong, their voices matter and help is available when they need it.
