Oxford County issues reminder of outdoor watering restrictions

Outdoor watering restrictions are in effect across Oxford County, including Tillsonburg, until September 30th. The rules aim to protect the county’s groundwater supply during peak summer demand, which can rise significantly.

Outdoor watering restrictions are in effect across Oxford County, including in Tillsonburg, running from May 1 to September 30.

Residents may only water lawns and gardens every other day, based on their address: odd-numbered homes on odd dates and even-numbered homes on even dates. Watering is limited to 6:00–9:00 a.m. or 6:00–9:00 p.m.

Commercial properties follow the same odd/even schedule but must water during 8:00–10:00 a.m. or 3:00–5:00 p.m.

The county says the rules help protect its groundwater supply, which experiences heavy summer demand. Last year, usage increased by as much as 51% during peak months.

Exemptions are available for special cases like pool filling or new landscaping by contacting Oxford County. Repeat non-compliance can lead to reduced water pressure and fines.

The water conservation program is active for all Oxford County residents serviced by municipal water: Beachville, Bright, Brownsville, Dereham Centre, Drumbo, Princeton, Embro, Hickson, Ingersoll, Innerkip, Lakeside, Mount Elgin, Norwich, Otterville, Springford, Sweaburg, Plattsville, Tavistock, Thamesford, Tillsonburg and Woodstock.
