Oxford County and its eight area municipalities are asking residents and businesses to share their thoughts on how road safety can be improved.
A Road Safety Strategy survey is now available through Speak Up, Oxford! until September 8, 2026. The three-to-five-minute survey asks residents to share their experiences and identify concerns as the County works toward a plan aimed at reducing collisions, injuries and fatalities for all road users.
The public can also use an interactive map to identify areas of concern for driving, walking or cycling, or submit comments and questions through an online feedback form.
Work begins this year with the development of a Road Safety Framework, which will establish the foundation for future planning. A detailed Road Safety Strategy is expected to be developed in 2027, including specific countermeasures and guidance to address safety concerns.
The project involves Oxford County, its eight area municipalities and partner agencies, including police and public health.
Potential short-term recommendations could include increased illumination at rural intersections, speed feedback signs, acoustical rumble strips and flashing beacons at stop-controlled intersections. Longer-term measures would focus on roadway design and greater use of data-driven transportation planning.
County Council approved development of the Road Safety Strategy in October 2025, including adoption of the Ontario Road Safety Audit Guideline. The guideline examines existing infrastructure and future transportation capital projects to identify safety hazards, assign risk ratings and recommend mitigation measures.
Public feedback will continue throughout the strategy’s development, with the current survey serving as the first step.
More information and the survey are available through Oxford County’s Speak Up, Oxford! website.
