Oxford OPP says a traffic safety initiative during the first two weeks of the school year resulted in 14 charges across Oxford County.
Operation Safe Start ran from September 8th to 11th and again from September 14th to 18th, with officers focusing on school and bus zones throughout the county.
Members of the Oxford OPP used targeted cruiser, foot and bicycle patrols as part of the initiative, which was also supported by safety messaging from local media partners.
The 14 charges included:
Four speeding charges
Five speeding charges in Community Safety Zones
Three charges for disobeying stop signs
One charge for failing to stop for a school bus
One stunt-driving charge
The OPP says that while even one traffic violation around a school or bus zone is one too many, the relatively low number of charges suggests motorists are taking student safety seriously.
Oxford OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Tony Hymers is thanking motorists who operated their vehicles safely during the initiative.
