Pride flag vandalism happens again in Norwich

Oxford OPP is investigating after a Pride flag was stolen and a metal flagpole was cut down at a Norwich school over the weekend.

Police say they were notified on June 7 of a mischief incident and theft that occurred at Emily Stowe Public School on Jerdon Street in Norwich.

According to investigators, two individuals attended the property at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6. Police allege the suspects cut down a metal flagpole, removed a recently replaced Pride flag, and fled the area on foot toward Stover Street.

The incident comes less than a week after Oxford OPP launched a separate investigation into the theft and burning of a Pride flag elsewhere in Norwich Township.

Police describe the first suspect as a white male in his late teens or early twenties with a thin build, wearing a light-coloured shirt, blue shorts, and dark-coloured boots.

The second suspect is also described as a white male in his late teens or early twenties with a thin build, wearing a light-coloured hat, a black T-shirt, and blue pants.

Investigators are appealing to residents and businesses in the area to review security camera footage that may help identify the individuals involved.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are encouraging anyone with information or video surveillance from the area around the time of the incident to contact Oxford OPP. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.

Police say updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
