Oxford seeks public input as new Official Plan prepares for population growth above 200,000.
Oxford County is reminding residents they have just days left to provide input on a new Official Plan that will guide growth and development over the next 20 to 30 years.
The online engagement survey closes August 31, giving residents a final opportunity to weigh in on how their communities could change as the county grows. Oxford is projected to welcome nearly 97,000 additional residents over the next two to three decades, potentially bringing its population above 200,000.
The new Official Plan will help determine where future growth should occur, how land is used and how development is coordinated with infrastructure and public services. The county says the updated plan will also consider housing, agriculture, environmental protection, economic development, infrastructure and cultural heritage.
Community workshops were held at four locations across Oxford County in June, while county staff have also been meeting with municipal councils and community partners as part of the first phase of consultation. Residents who missed the workshops can still complete the online survey, while comments can also be submitted throughout the Official Plan process.
The current Official Plan was approved in 1995 and has now surpassed its original planning horizon. Oxford County says developing a new plan provides an opportunity to establish a long-term vision that reflects current provincial requirements and local priorities.
