Ron Gasparetto wins Tillsonburg council seat, bringing decades of municipal experience

The newly elected councillor says he's ready for the work ahead after securing one of six council seats in Monday's municipal election.

Ron Gasparetto is heading to Tillsonburg council for the first time, bringing more than three decades of experience working with municipalities.

Gasparetto received 2,766 votes in Monday's municipal election, securing the sixth and final available council seat according to the Town's unofficial results.

Although this will be his first term as an elected councillor, Gasparetto has spent more than 30 years working with municipalities, councils and private interest groups.

His professional background includes real estate, asset management and economic development.

During his campaign, Gasparetto emphasized the importance of managing Tillsonburg's growth at a pace that doesn't overwhelm infrastructure and municipal services.

Following the announcement of the results Monday night, Gasparetto reflected on the campaign and the responsibilities ahead.

There was also some humour mixed into the election-night celebrations.

It was suggested to Gasparetto that election night would bring five minutes of elation, followed by four years of hard work. He figured he still had a little celebrating left to do.

Gasparetto joins Lindsey Ambrus Mejaski, Chris Parker, Dave Beres, Chrissy Rosehart and John Gilvesy on the newly elected council.

Ambrus Mejaski received the highest vote total among council candidates, with 3,951 votes.

Incumbent Mayor Deb Gilvesy was also re-elected, receiving 4,475 votes, or approximately 69 per cent, against challenger Kelly Spencer's 2,052 votes.

The election results remain unofficial pending certification by the municipal clerk.
