Bayham council will meet tonight to consider transferring ownership of the historic Port Burwell Lighthouse to the Port Burwell Historical Society.
The lighthouse has been closed to the public because of structural concerns, but the Historical Society wants to take on a restoration project aimed at preserving the landmark for future generations.
Municipality of Bayham Treasurer, Lorne James, says it could open the door to a wide range of funding for restoration.
Council's special meeting gets underway Thursday at 7:00 p.m., with a media event planned for Friday afternoon at the Port Burwell Marine Museum if the transfer moves ahead.
