Early-morning ice users will have more flexibility at the Tillsonburg Community Centre after Town Council approved opening the arena at 6:00 a.m. to accommodate requests from user groups.

The decision was made during Council's August 10 meeting as the Town responds to demand from organizations looking for additional opportunities to schedule ice time.

The Community Centre is a major recreation hub in Tillsonburg, featuring multiple indoor ice surfaces, including two full-size rinks and a mini practice pad. The facility supports a wide range of hockey, skating and other ice-related programming.

The Town's decision provides greater flexibility when scheduling early-morning practices, games, tournaments and other organized activities.

The change is particularly relevant for local sports organizations that may have limited opportunities to secure ice during more traditional operating hours.

The Community Centre currently serves as a venue for hockey and other recreation programs throughout the year, with user groups booking ice for practices, games and special events.

Council's approval does not necessarily mean the arena will be open to the general public at 6:00 a.m. every day. Rather, the decision allows the Town to accommodate user-group requests for ice beginning at that time.

The Community Centre's three indoor ice surfaces include the Kinsmen Memorial Arena, which features NHL-sized ice, and the Colin Campbell Community Arena, along with a smaller practice pad.

The Town has continued to balance demand for recreation facilities with available operating hours and scheduling requirements.

The 6:00 a.m. opening provides another option for organizations trying to find available ice time, particularly during busy periods when demand for arena space is high.

Tillsonburg Community Centre is located at 45 Hardy Avenue and also includes an indoor swimming pool, fitness facilities, meeting spaces and the Tillsonburg Senior Centre. Tillsonburg Community Centre

The decision was one of several items considered by Tillsonburg Town Council during its August 10 meeting. Council meetings are held publicly, with agendas and minutes available through the Town's website.

For local user groups, the change could provide an important additional window for booking ice and making use of the Community Centre's arena facilities.
