Changes are coming to patient care at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. Personal Support Workers will no longer be working in acute care and ICU units, as the hospital says they are adding more nursing staff.
Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital is updating its inpatient care model by expanding Registered Nurse (RN) and Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) staffing while eliminating Personal Support Worker (PSW) roles in its acute and Intensive Care Units (ICU).
The hospital, part of Rural Roads Health Services, says the changes respond to increasingly complex patient needs requiring more frequent assessments, medication management, and timely clinical interventions by regulated nursing staff.
Officials say the shift is intended to improve patient safety and outcomes, and will not affect bed capacity or service availability.
The PSW role will be removed from acute care units as part of formal layoff processes under the Collective Agreement. The hospital says it will support affected employees through the transition.
The new model is expected to increase the presence of nurses at the bedside and align staffing with current patient acuity levels.
