Tillsonburg launches first 'Clean & Green Earth Week' with community cleanups and “Great Gnome Hunt”

Tillsonburg is launching its first Clean & Green Earth Week (April 19–25), inviting teams to clean up local parks and spaces with free supplies and a chance to win prizes. The event also features a “Great Gnome Hunt” and will track total waste collected to measure community impact.

Tillsonburg is calling on residents to roll up their sleeves for its first-ever Clean & Green Earth Week, a new community initiative aimed at sprucing up parks, trails and natural areas.

Running April 19th to 25th, the week-long event invites families, schools, businesses and community groups to form teams of five to 30 people and “adopt” a local space to clean at any time during the week. Participants are encouraged to get creative with team names as part of the effort to build community spirit.

The town is providing free gloves and garbage bags for volunteers, available for pickup at municipal locations including the Customer Service Centre on Lisgar Avenue, the Community Centre on Hardy Avenue and Annandale National Historic Site.

Organizers say teams that register and submit their cleanup results will be entered into a prize draw, with a grand prize of a private skate or swim paired with a pizza party. Additional prizes will also be awarded.

Adding a playful twist, the event also includes the “Great Gnome Hunt,” where special garden gnomes will be hidden throughout the community. Participants who find one can bring it to the community centre to claim a prize and have their photo taken.

The town says all collected waste will be weighed at the end of the week, with results shared publicly as part of an effort to track progress and build momentum for future years.
