The initiative focuses on conceptual plans for a proposed sports field complex at 67 Mall Road and possible future options for the existing Annandale Diamonds site.
Council approved the recommendation following a report presented earlier this week. The report was limited to seeking authorization for public consultation and did not include any requests for approval related to housing projects, redevelopment, land sales, construction or changes in land use.
Town staff will now move ahead with a multi-month engagement program that will include the release of conceptual plans and background information, along with public information sessions, meetings with advisory committees and community stakeholders, and an online survey.
The project has its roots in the Town’s 2023 update to the Community Strategic Plan, which incorporated priorities identified during the 2022 municipal election. Recreation opportunities, greenspace protection and managing future growth were among the key themes identified. Shortly afterward, the Town pursued the acquisition of the Mall Road property, completing the purchase in April 2024 following planning reviews and discussions with Norfolk County.
The municipality has earmarked $6.3 million for land acquisition, investigations and development costs associated with the site. Town officials say the goal is to ensure municipal assets are used effectively while supporting future growth and maintaining long-term financial sustainability.
As part of the consultation process, residents will have opportunities to provide feedback through at least two public information centres, meetings with sports groups and neighbouring property owners, and an online survey addressing topics such as recreation needs, housing, traffic, greenspace, neighbourhood compatibility and overall community development.
