A longtime hockey man shares three reasons to watch the Tillsonburg Thunder this season
The Tillsonburg Thunder are still finding their footing this season, and Doug Cooper says it’s too early to draw any big conclusions. Cooper knows the local hockey scene from several angles. He’s coached players, followed the game for years and now brings the action to life for fans behind the microphone.
The Thunder’s home opener ended in a loss, but the opposition was no ordinary team.
With the season still young, Cooper has a couple of players he thinks fans should keep an eye on - starting in goal.
Cooper’s connection to Blacker goes back to his coaching days in Delhi. But he also points to the value of experience, particularly when it comes to veteran Mike Findlay.
Findlay’s contribution goes well beyond the rink. He’s also been recognized for his community service, including growing his hair long before cutting it to help provide hair for people affected by cancer.
For Cooper, following a local team is about more than the final score. It’s about getting to know the players, recognizing their contributions and giving fans another reason to come out and support their team.
Time to get excited, with the Thunder's season underway, and the team back on the road this Friday, October 23, visiting Dunnville.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Dunnville Memorial Arena.
There’s plenty of hockey still to be played - and, as Cooper suggests, plenty of reasons to keep watching.
