What's Next for Felix Nzemeka? Former Tillsonburg Council Candidate Plans to Stay Involved

Felix Nonso Nzemeka may not have won a seat on Tillsonburg council, but he says his commitment to the community hasn't changed.

Nzemeka received 1,391 votes in Monday's municipal election, falling short of securing one of the six available council seats.

Speaking on election night, Nzemeka said he was at peace with the results and believes everyone involved in the election shares a common goal of making Tillsonburg a better place to live.

Rather than focusing on the disappointment of losing, he offered a message of support for the incoming council.

Nzemeka also encouraged the newly elected councillors to listen carefully to residents, particularly when it comes to the needs of the community, affordability and the direction residents want the town to take.

And while his name won't be among those seated at the council table, Nzemeka says he has no intention of stepping away from municipal affairs.

Asked whether he would continue attending council meetings and participating in local government despite his election loss, his answer was immediate.

"I will. I've not been too much engaged with the council, but this time I will be part of the committees and I will be part of the council. I will support their team and I will make sure that our town runs effectively the way it should."

As for whether he'll put his name forward again in the next municipal election, Nzemeka says four years is a long way off, and he isn't ready to make that decision.

But he hasn't closed the door on another campaign.

For now, his attention is on supporting the people who were elected and finding ways to contribute to Tillsonburg over the next four years.
