Woodstock Council has approved plans to incorporate a branch of the Woodstock Public Library into the schematic design for the proposed North Woodstock Recreation Complex.
The recreation facility, planned for Cowan Fields, is expected to include a twin-pad arena, indoor pool, gymnasium and multi-purpose space.
During the early stages of the design process, city staff identified a library branch as a desirable addition to the facility. The goal is to create a central community hub that would bring recreation, wellness, learning and community services together in one location.
The addition also addresses the Woodstock Public Library’s need for more space as the city’s population continues to grow.
A 2021 building expansion study conducted by the library identified the need for additional library space and recommended establishing a secondary branch.
