Woodstock Police seized a loaded handgun and over $1 million in cash during a second search tied to Project Delorean, marking the largest cash seizure in the service’s history. A 28-year-old man already arrested now faces additional firearm and proceeds-of-crime charges and remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
A major police investigation in Woodstock has taken another turn, with a huge cash seizure and more charges laid.
The Woodstock Police Service says its Street Crime Unit carried out another search warrant on April 24th at a commercial property on Dundas Street. This came just a day after officers made several arrests and seized drugs as part of Project Delorean.
During the search, police found a loaded handgun and $1,024,720 in cash, marking the largest cash seizure in the service’s history.
One of the four people already arrested in the case, a 28-year-old man from Woodstock, is now facing additional charges. These include possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000 and several firearm-related offences, such as having a prohibited or restricted weapon without authorization and improper storage of a firearm.
He’s currently being held in custody while awaiting a bail hearing.
Police say this is a significant step in cracking down on organized crime in the community, pointing to the removal of both illegal weapons and a large amount of suspected criminal proceeds.
